i love being alone. not in a pull my shades down to pace the floor and spout philosophical messes kind of way. but in a, just me and my family kind of way.
on the way into the nature preserve i said “i hope no one else is here” and i didn’t literally mean no one at all. i just meant, i hope it’s not crowded. the last time i planned a day there, we arrived to find that there was some sort of jog-a-thon being held and i was mortified. all my plans disappeared in the sound of thousands of stomping feet. and i know i could have checked to see if anything was going on that day. but i was disillusioned by the assumption that picnics were planned easily. hence the expression “well, it was no picnic for me either!”
but yesterday, my little dream came true. the side we picked to picnic at was empty. it was mine. all MINE! mwahahahahahaha. eh hem, i mean ours. if you’re thinking “wow, she’s really weird“… go with that.
anyway, we had so much fun. the picnic food itself was a tad lame since i got so wrapped up in the activities i forgot about the eating part. which i know is one of the main points of a picnic, but welcome to my world. i’m not much of a thinker when it comes to food.
so we ate the lame food, sang happy bday to nugget, he opened his last gift… a thomas rhyming book that he read asap complete with adorable inflections and bopping head, ate cupcakes and then went to fly a kite. the kite flying took up the rest of the time. i had also brought bubbles, a badminton set, my 1960′s kaleidoscope, and a ball. nugget LOVED flying the kite, more than i even imagined and he was crazy good at it too.
i can’t wait to do it again.
lovely times had by all.
